Great Presentation on Color

The highlight of our meeting this month was a presentation on color by our guest speaker Geoff Krueger. Very inspiring!

Our members shared some wonderful projects at our meeting on Saturday!

2017 Quilt Challenge

At our meeting on Saturday we also kicked off our 2017 Quilt Challenge. We are challenging each member to make a quilt utilizing monochromatic color choices and negative space.

There are two size options:

  • 144 inches – If you want to be part of our “Small Group Challenge Quilts” submittal to the 2017 Boise Basin Quilt Show, the perimeter of your completed quilt must be no larger than 144″. Please note that this category is judged.
  • 50″x60″ – If you don’t want to participate in the small group challenge, please make a lap/throw sized quilt, around 50″x60″. If you want to make a larger quilt please do so!

Deadline

  • Completed quilts must be brought to our June 24, 2017 meeting.

We can’t wait to see what you create!

Join us for our February Meeting – Learning about Color

When: Saturday, February 25, 2017 – 1 pm – 4 pm
Where: Boise Public Library, 715 S Capitol Blvd, Boise, ID (Marion Bingham Room on 3rd floor)

We have a special guest speaker, artist Goeff Krueger, coming to join our discussion about color, led by Lindsie Bergevin. Geoff is a professional fine artist whose work can be seen in several public collections including three pieces now on display at the Boise Art Museum’s 2017 Idaho Triennial (open Feb. 21-July 16). He paints broad sweeping landscapes and seascapes, studies of structures and found objects, all while capturing the light of the subject’s surroundings. His recent emphasis on monochromatic color makes him the perfect addition to our discussion of color theory. We’ll explore the overlap between quilting, color theory (and real-world application) and fine art. We will also be kicking off a color related quilt challenge for guild members. Don’t miss it!

We expect the presentation and discussion to last up to 2 hours, so we will not be sewing at this meeting.

As always, please bring your completed modern projects to share with the group.

Not familiar with how our meetings work? We typically follow this format:

  • Quick announcements
  • Show and share
  • Sewing on individual projects, and of course conversation (or tutorial/presentation if one is scheduled)
