Oct. 26 Meeting & Halloween fabric swap

BMQG Guild Meeting / Open Sew
When: Saturday, Oct. 26, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Where: Library! at Cole & Ustick, 7557 W. Ustick Rd., Boise
We’ll have a Halloween fabric swap and once we wrap up business, you’re welcome to stay and sew or just hang out. If you plan to sew, bring all the things you need — your machine, tools, projects and ironing supplies.

  • If you want to participate in a Halloween fabric exchange, bring a fat quarter, jelly roll, strips, kit or anything in between; there are no hard and fast rules, just be sure to bring something you’d like to get. As always, the swap is totally optional and so fun!
  • Bring your show & tell and completed community giving quilts. We want to see what you’ve been working on! As a reminder, we’re on pause for community giving quilt tops and backs — but you can still bring quilts just need binding and/or entirely finished and ready to donate.
  • Help shape the future of BMQG! In the coming days, watch your inbox for a member survey. Our board will use your feedback to help guide planning for what’s ahead.

Hope to see you next week! In the meantime here are some other quilty news bits you might enjoy:

  • For all those hand embroiderers out there, you’ll especially appreciate this article on a pioneering quilter who stitched the solar system into her quilt as a teaching aid, once again proving that art and science can fit together so beautifully.
  • MQG’s International Scrap Sorting Day is coming up on November 2! MQG will share their Scrap Sorting Tips and showcase a few samples of scrappy quilts made from patterns in their Resource Library to provide inspiration for using scraps. The MQG Resource Library is filled with hundreds of quilt patterns, block patterns, sewing projects, community articles, and educational videos. Log in the MQG website (set up an account if you haven’t already) and to access resources like:
    • Modern Traditionalism by Holly Clarke
    • Modern Appliqué by Ginny Robinson
    • Negative Space by Augusto Garcia
  • QuiltCon registration is open for MQG Members. Members MUST register by November 30, 2024, to take advantage of member discounts.
  • Cherrywood Fabrics has announced its 2025 Art Quilt Challenge ABYSS – Creatures from the Deep. Visit their site to get the details on rules, deadlines and all the fabrics.
  • Our friends in other parts of the country are still recovering from Hurricane Helene, and if you’re inclined to help in any way, the folks at Lo and Behold Stitchery are working in their own community to get quilts, food and help to their neighbors. They’ve also compiled a useful list of organizations that are on the ground helping.
