March 22 Meeting with Dianne Kane

Join us for our next meeting featuring local quilter and designer Dianne Kane and lots more!
When: Saturday, March. 22, 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Where: Butte Room, Library! at Hillcrest, 5246 W Overland Rd, Boise

Special Guests: The meeting features “Stories to Stitches,” a trunk show with Dianne Kane, who will show her quilts inspired by books. Dianne knew early in life that she wanted to be an artist, and when her cousin Judy introduced her to quilting, Dianne was hooked! Then, members of the KewSewClub will join us, talking about their work making red, white and blue quilts for veterans who’ve completed a sobriety program at Boise Rescue Mission.

Show & Tell: We’re trying a new process for show & tell. Just line up on each side of the room, then alternate from side to side who comes up next to show. Then, in 2 minutes tell us a couple of things about the quilt — that might include something about the fabric, who it’s made for, why you chose this pattern, when you started it, etc.

“What Was I Thinking?” challenge: We’re kicking it off! Here’s how it works:

  1. Bring one or two fat quarters from your stash that make you say “What was I thinking…?” or is otherwise unloved.
  2. All the poor ugly ducklings will go on a table, and you can swap out one or two new-to-you fat quarters to take home.
  3. Make something (anything!) using a goodly portion of the new fabric on the front (aim for 75% on the front, not hiding it as backing) or in some identifiable way.
  4. What the final project becomes is totally up to you! You can make a table runner, wall hanging, quilt, bag, stuffed animal or anything else.
  5. Behold the swans! Bring your finished item to the June 28 meeting.
