Red and White Double Wedding Ring quilt by Carol Mitchell
Carol M

This month Carol Mitchell will be leading us in the double wedding ring quilt. For those who are interested in making a double wedding ring quilt, a single block, or just learn the process, Carol is willing to help you. She won’t actually “teach” a class, but will help you try to avoid areas where you may have a few difficulties.

As an example, she will use as her double wedding ring quilt she made inspired by Victoria Findlay Wolfe’s book, “Double Wedding Ring Quilts” and Victoria’s other book, “15 Minutes of Play”.

If you don’t have the books, don’t worry about it unless you REALLY want to make a quilt in Victoria’s style. Carol will have hers on hand.

If you would like to participate please bring:

  • Sewing machine and related tools
  • Fabric to make a block. A few fat quarters will do nicely.
  • If you want to make “made fabric” bring lots of scraps – any shape, any color – lots of them.
  • Spray starch – if you have it.
  • Best Press – if you have it.

Carol will bring the DWR templates. As always, please bring your completed modern projects to share with the group.

If you have them, it’s always a good idea to bring a power strip and/or small extension cord as well.

Not familiar with how our meetings work? We typically follow this format:

  • Quick announcements
  • Show and share
  • Sewing on individual projects, and of course conversation (or tutorial/presentation if one is scheduled)

2018 Annual Meeting and Sew Day – Join Us

When: December 1, 2018, 1-4 p.m.
Where: Boise Public Library, 715 S Capitol Blvd, Boise, ID (Marion Bingham Room on 3rd floor)

Yes, it is that time of year again! Since we are a non-profit we are required to hold an annual meeting to take care of a few quick – but important – items of business. We promise to make the business part go quick! Below is an outline of the meeting as well as some other announcements.

A few changes for your calendar:
We are combining our November and December meetings. Instead of meeting in both November and December, we will meet December 1. Our annual after-holiday party will be January 26 at our regularly scheduled sew day.

Annual swap:
At our January after-holiday party we will exchange pillow covers. We emailed members a form to fill out so swap partners can learn a bit more about each other’s likes and dislikes. The last day to complete the form is 12/2/18 and we will let you know who your swap partner is a day or two after that. The pillow covers will be exchanged at our After-Holiday party on 1/26/19. Need ideas for making a pillow cover? Visit our Pillow Covers Pinterest board https://www.pinterest.com/boisemqg/pillow-covers/. You will be making and giving the pillow cover only, NOT a pillow form.

December 1st meeting

Business:

  • Dues: If you are interested in being a member of the Boise Modern Quilt Guild in 2019, we’ll be processing memberships. If you’d like to take care of your membership beforehand, or if you can’t make it to the meeting, please go to the Boise Modern Quilt Guild Membership page and use the PayPal option to pay your $20 dues online. Or you may mail your $20 dues to Shelly Harshman at 1196 W Bear Track Drive Meridian ID 83642. Checks should be made payable to Boise Modern Quilt Guild. Please have your dues in by December 2, 2018.
  • Financials: We will review our financial information – where money was spent in 2018 and what we expect our expenses to be in 2019.
  • Voting: We will vote on the Board of Directors. Our Board is currently comprised of: Christy Foltz-Ahlrichs, President; Angela Bowman, Vice President; Lindsie Bergevin, Secretary; Lori Wambolt, Treasurer. However, this year we have a change. Lori will not be continuing as the Treasurer and instead will be working to coordinate our charity projects. As a result, the board has nominated Sally Bradley for the Treasurer position and she has graciously agreed to be on the ballot.
    • A few rules about the vote:
      • At the meeting any member in good standing may nominate another person to the board with the second of another member.
      • To be qualified as an elected officer, a member must be in good standing, and have been active in the Guild for at least one year (with exception for the founding officers).
      • Renewing and new members are allowed to vote.
      • A member does not have to be present to be on the ballot, but you must be at the meeting to vote.
      • See Position Descriptions of Board Members for more information.

Fun:

  • After business is taken care of we will transition into a regular sew day, so bring a project to work on!
  • As always, bring your modern projects to show off!

September 2018 Sew Day

Take a look at what some of our members shared in September:

2018 Boise MQG Retreat

Our quilting retreat was a complete success! A big hearty thank you goes out to Luther Heights – what a fantastic facility!  To see all the other pics, scroll through our Instagram profile: @BoiseMQG on Instagram.

Here’s what some of our attendees said when we asked what they liked about the retreat:

“The camaraderie and fellowship of the ladies present. Also… no TV, phones, or other distracting elements.”

“The gathering room was the best!”

“Fun people, no schedule, a chance to try out a long arm.”

“Getting together with everyone to sew and learn.”

“Everything. Especially not having to cook.”

“Location, new friends, and sewing, duh.”
