  • On day 1, we’ll review common design principles and elements of modern quilts and have a trunk show featuring Nicole’s quilts. We’ll also explore our surroundings for sources of design inspiration.
  • On day 2, we will apply the modern quilt design concepts from day 1 to make a big and bold modern quilt top. We’ll use an easy technique involving freezer paper to sew together a quilt using large, irregularly shaped pieces.
  • By the end of the workshop, you will be on your way to making big and bold modern quilts!

To enroll in the workshop, please sign up here and complete the form which includes instructions on how to pay. Once payment is received, you will receive a confirmation email that your spot has been secured, along with a class supply list.

September 2019 Sew Day

Check out what our members made recently!

Thank you Boise MQG members!

Over the past few months our members have been working on quilts for the Boise refugee community. Members that wanted to participate were given a bundle of fat quarters that were donated by Massdrop and coordinating solid fabric to create their quilt(s). So far members have donated 13 quilts! We will be donating the quilts in June and a few more quilts are on the way, but we were so excited by our member’s generosity that we just had to share a photo of all the quilts now. If you look at the previous post you can see some of the quilts in full.

Members that donated these great quilts include: Nancy England, Fay Hikida, Angela Bowman, Karen Falvey, Teresa Church, Carol Mitchell and Christy Foltz-Ahlrichs

Sherri Lynn Wood Workshop: Bias Strip Piecing on the Curve

We are excited to share with you that we are bringing improvisational patchwork quilter Sherri Lynn Wood to Boise for a two-day Bias Strip Piecing on the Curve workshop!

About Sherri:
Sherri is an interdisciplinary artist based in Oakland, CA. Her 2015 publication The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters: A Guide to Creating, Quilting & Living Courageously (Abrams) provides frameworks for creative exploration, along with practical instruction in stitching techniques and color theory. Sherri teaches and speaks about improvisational patchwork and flexible patterning at art and craft schools, guilds, and conferences nationally and abroad. She will also be the featured speaker at QuiltCon 2019. You can find Sherri on social media @sherrilynnwood or at www.sherrilynnwood.com.

About the workshop:
Get your bias-strip curve on and celebrate your mistakes! Learn the innovative ruler-free technique of bias-strip piecing on the curve, how to troubleshoot and flatten internal bubbles as they arise. Learn to create wedge-curves along with a variety of options for utilizing both techniques in fixed patterns or improvised compositions. This is an advanced technique that takes time to master, pushing you to the brink of beginner’s mind. Imagine the possibilities! All skill levels welcome.

  • When: Friday and Saturday, June 15 & 16, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day
  • Where: JUMP – Inspire Studio, 1000 W Myrtle St. Boise, ID 83702
