September 2017 Big Stitch Hand Quilting – Join Us!

When: Saturday, September 23, 1 pm – 4 pm
Where: Boise Public Library, 715 S Capitol Blvd, Boise, ID (Marion Bingham Room on 3rd floor)

We are not meeting at the Julia Davis Park like we intended. It’s just too chilly and soggy.

This month we are doing something a bit different! We thought it would be fun to take our meeting outside and learn how to do big stitch hand quilting. Our instructor will be Billie Farley and she will give us a short tutorial followed by plenty of time for practice. We will email a supply list later this week. Make sure you bring a quilt or lawn chair to sit on and any quilting accessories that you might want to use, like tools, storage, or cutting mats!

Update: Here’s the supply list:

  • quilt sandwich that is basted together with pins or thread (choose lightweight batting that is recommended for hand quilting – Warm & Natural not recommended)
  • wooden quilting hoop that is more than an inch deep, and 14-20+ inches in diameter (Billie will bring a couple extra of these)
  • embroidery needle with a large eye
  • thread – Perle cotton #12 or #8 are great options
  • thimble – make sure it fits
  • finger cots or finger gloves (Billie will bring many of these)
  • small embroidery scissors

August 2017 Sew Day – Join Us!

When: Saturday, August 26, 1 pm – 4 pm
Where: *NOTE DIFFERENT LOCATION* St. Stephens Church – 2206 N Cole Rd

This month we will be working on individual projects so bring your sewing machine and sewing/quilting projects to work on. If you can, we advise you also bring a task light, since the lighting at St. Stephens can be a little dim.

We’ll be offering a pretty fantastic raffle prize of sewing goodies. We received so many donations for the retreat, that we thought we’d save some items for a Sew Day Raffle for those who couldn’t attend the retreat. Tickets are $1/each. You’ll want to buy many! Also, we have some extra tote bags we’ll be selling for $10/each.

As always, please bring your completed modern projects to share with the group.

If you have them, it’s always a good idea to bring a power strip and/or small extension cord as well.

Great Workshop!

We had a great time at the Fabulous Fat Quarter Quilts Workshop and Trunk Show with Kenna Ogg! Everyone left with blocks started for their quilts and a better understanding of color and fabric choice.

Fabulous Fat Quarter Quilts – a Workshop and Trunk Show with Kenna Ogg

  • Where: St. Stephens, 2206 N Cole Rd, Boise, ID 83704
  • Cost: $55 for BMQG members, $75 for general public*

In this workshop and trunk show, Quilt Designer Kenna Ogg of Madison Cottage Design will teach how to strategically use color selection, special rulers and fat quarter selection to create stunning quilts.

Students can choose to make one or more of the following Madison Cottage Design patterns:

  • Cocoa Nibs (which uses the Creative Grids Perfect rectangle ruler)
  • Cherry Cream Soda (which use the Creative Grids 60 degree triangle ruler).

Both employ fat quarters in two colors or volume levels.

Kenna will discuss selecting fat quarters, color and fabric choices, as well as hold an ongoing fat quarter swap among students (though participation is not required). Kenna will also demonstrate both Creative Grids rulers and how to use them in the quilts you make.

Included in the workshop fee is 1 of the 2 patterns and a homemade lunch! You will be responsible for bringing the Creative Grid ruler needed for the quilt you choose. You can find them at one of our local quilt shops.

20 spots are available, first come first served. Once payment is received, you will receive a confirmation email that your spot has been secured, along with a class supply list.

Please fill out this form to sign up.
